Visual studio 2012 and Sharepoint 2013 templates

You want to get started developing for SharePoint 2013 but you are missing the necessary templates in Visual Studio 2012 ?

Not all versions of Visual Studio 2012 will work

First of all you need Visual Studio 2012, at least Professionnal edition. Premium won’t do it!

Finding the templates

Having a look at the available projects you will find Sharepoint 2010 templates but no 2013.

Getting started

Here is a place to start downloading some templates for SharePoint development :

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/office/apps/fp123627

In the tool section click “Download the tools” to get the Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012.

And it will start the Web Platform Installer 4.0 asking you to install the Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 – Preview 2.

Click Install and it will show you a long list of items to download and install.

Remark : IIS wasn’t installed and configured on my Windows 8 laptop before the download

After a while voila :

What do you mean by “Premium won’t do it!”

    1. I mean that Premium edition of Visual Studio is not enough!

@regbac: this is plainly wrong. Visual Studio Premium DOES support it indeed

    1. Great to hear, thanks.
